In celebration of its remarkable 150th anniversary, the Institute of Agriculture and Tourism (IPTPO) —one of the oldest scientific institutions in Croatia—hosted the scientific conference “From Science to Innovation for Sustainable Development of Agriculture and Tourism.”
This special two-day event, 8th and 9th May, brought together researchers, experts, and innovators to explore how science can drive sustainability in two of Croatia’s key sectors. Nearly 100 scientific research papers were presented, accompanied by an impressive array of posters and project showcases that highlighted both legacy knowledge and forward-looking solutions.
Among the highlighted contributions was the CIRCOLIVE project, presented by Dr. Karolina Brkić Bubola and Iva Pastor from the Institute of Agriculture and Tourism. Their presentation emphasized how the CIRCOLIVE initiative aligns with the EU’s goals for a circular economy in the olive oil sector, particularly in countries such as Spain, Italy, Greece, Portugal, and Croatia. The project’s aim is to turn olive oil production into a model of sustainable practice by valorising waste and reusing by-products throughout the supply chain.
The conference provided a meaningful platform for sharing ongoing research, building networks, and showcasing the transformative potential of science. For the CIRCOLIVE team, it was a unique opportunity to position olive oil innovation at the heart of discussions about the future of agriculture and tourism in the region.
As the Institute looks ahead to the next chapter, initiatives like CIRCOLIVE underscore the power of research and collaboration in building a more sustainable, resource-smart future.
